In the late 1990s, I redesigned the sound system and set up 16-track recording at what soon became an infamous performance space. And not just due to the personality quirks of the owners.
I recorded a year’s worth of Jon Brion’s earliest residencies and the first appearances by Tenacious D. Workshops of early material and intimate performances by Aimee Mann, eels, Grant Lee Buffalo, Glenn Tilbrook, and countless others. Stand-up performances by Margaret Cho, Janeane Garofolo, and Sarah Silverman. Michael Stipe and Helena Christensen singing karaoke.
And my personal favorite: Andy Prieboy.
